Words from Winter Monthly Meeting: Interviews with Program Participants

Our winter monthly meetings have been going by so fast!  Every month we interview one person from each meeting so we can post it, and connect our online community with our program participants. By having this online campaign, we hope to introduce the dynamic and inspirational lives of New Haven Farms’ Wellness Program participants. We have so many people who support us on Facebook, Instagram, and online but have never been to meetings or met the people who are the life of New Haven Farms. Here are some of the stories our participants have been brave enough to share.

How did you get involved with NHF?

A friend introduced me to the program.

What did you enjoy most about the program, or what was your biggest takeaway?

I’ve introduced more vegetables into my diet. I’ve lost weight and have become more active.

What is something you would say to someone just beginning the program or what advice would you give to them?

The program helps you eat healthier, cook healthy, lose weight, and is a great distraction from your daily routine.

 

Robyn- 34

How did you get involved with New Haven Farms?

I saw a poster in my doctor’s office and called New Haven Farms.

What did you enjoy most about the program, or what is your biggest Takeaway from our program?

I loved all the different recipes, the foods that go together that I never thought would complement each other. Celine put the craziest foods in combination and made them delicious! She put watermelon, feta and black olives in a salad and it was fabulous.

 

Juan Ortiz- 57

How did you get involved with New Haven Farms?

My doctor mentioned the program to me, and my nutritionist referred me.

What did you enjoy most about the program or what is your biggest takeaway?

I’ve learned how to eat healthier. Before, I didn’t know how to prepare certain vegetables, and I have definitely increased the amount of vegetables I eat. I really like the camaraderie, and I now have a new activity to add to my routine. I have seen a real change in my health; I’ve lost 23 pounds since starting the program and am happier and healthier all around!

 

Tanya Walton- 51

How did you get involved with NHF?

My doctor referred me to the program.

What did you enjoy most about the program or what was your biggest takeaway?

I’ve gained a lot of healthier recipes which include a variety of produce. This program has helped me to integrate healthier ways of cooking at home like the difference between non-organic and organic.

What would you say to someone just beginning the program or what advice would you give them?

Just do it. I have quite a lot of people waiting to join because I love it so much and have told them all about it. My blood pressure and A1C was much higher, and now it’s normal. The program taught me a lot about herbals and remedies. I just keep pushing people to do it, and I can’t wait to grow my own vegetables! I love it, love it; I never miss a meeting!
