Join us for Black Birders Week 2025

Black Birders Week is back—a celebration of Black birders, naturalists, and outdoor lovers, and a powerful call for diversity and inclusion in nature spaces.

Founded in 2020 in response to racial injustice and the Central Park incident involving birder and science writer Christian Cooper, this annual event uplifts Black voices and experiences in the outdoors.

This year’s theme, Grounded in Community, honors Black joy, liberation, and collective power in nature. We’re hosting in-person birding excursions, conversations on conservation, and explorations of the deep connections between birding, Black culture, and environmental justice.

While everyone is welcome, we center Black experiences and aim to create a space where Black participants feel seen, safe, and celebrated—especially those new to birding.

Black Birders Week is more than an event. It’s a celebration of resilience, community, and the transformative power of representation in the wild.

Whether you’re a seasoned birder or new to the hobby, there’s something for everyone!
