COMMUNITY GARDENS

ABOUT THE COMMUNITY GARDENS

Gather New Haven supports over 40 community gardens throughout the city of New Haven. We provide land, soil, infrastructure, seeds, seedlings, tools, and technical support to help individuals and families grow their own food. We also host a wide array of social gatherings in the gardens that are free and open to the public. These community gardens bring together over 800 family members each year to produce an estimated 15,000+ pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables and build community ties.

If you want to join a community garden, please fill out our application form.

Si quieres unirte a un jardín comunitario, registrase aquí (formulario de solicitud en Español).

While new community gardens will be supported and managed by Gather New Haven, volunteer Garden Coordinators and community garden members are responsible for recruitment, labor, and organization of communal work days to maintain the gardens. Initial instruction, technical assistance, and materials are provided by Gather New Haven with the generous support of individual and foundation funders. Upon availability, materials include soil amendments (such as topsoil and/or compost) in addition to water access, seedlings, and seeds. Gather New Haven will also build garden beds and other infrastructure if needed.

A nominal fee is asked of community garden members to share and offset costs and supplies.
