Community Gardens
New Haven has many community gardens throughout the city that are cared for by devoted neighborhood leaders and volunteers. These gardens grow on city-owned properties, Gather properties, and privately owned community accessible properties. There are also a wide array of social gatherings that take place in the gardens that are free and open to the public. These community gardens bring together over 800 family members each year to produce an estimated 15,000+ pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables and build community ties.
Volunteer Garden Coordinators and community garden members are responsible for recruitment, labor, and organization of communal work days to maintain the gardens. When resources and funding allow, Gather is able to provide materials, instruction, and technical assistance.
